I've never had chicken pox as a kid, never had any form of long drawn out illness except typhoid when I was about 3 and don't even remember that... i kept saying this all my life and the gods were laughing all the while.
Come 27th birthday and move to UK with husband.. all excited about life in firangland and suddenly hubby comes down with a case of the pox :(
well, it's 21 days since he's had them and he's recovered completely (still a little weak but the leech-like scabs have left and no evidence of any marks so all well) when I look in the mirror and hey... there it is, the classic rose petal pimply little thing (quite a monster to be honest, magnified by my own fears) right above my left eyebrow...
I've seen the onset through husband, so know immediately it's chicken pox :(
Day 1 - 3 actually weren't too bad, slight fever, a little weak and a couple of spots on my torso and back.
day 4-7 - oh MY GOD I WANT TO DIE... Was up all night, doing little war dances to avoid scratching the little buggers that seemed to have sprung up all of a sudden all over my body... as a count (gross I know but since I spent so much time counting them, I'm not missing the chance to write them down here)... 153 on my face, 35 on my neck and another 150 on my chest, stomach and back, also a few each on legs and arms.
All angry and red and disgusting and ITCHING like mad!
Day 8- Still itchy all over, the only way i can go to sleep is putting facial wipes with vitamin e oil on my back and leaving them there while i sleep - i strongly recommend this for anyone going through the itchy phase... just gently place the facial wipes where you're itching (don't rub!!!) and the coolness of the tissue will reduce the itchiness.
Day 10 - finally starting to scab and the itchiness has lessened considerably. Fever's down and feeling normal health wise. However, look ugly as hell, with scabs all over my body, some have, for lack of space on my face run into each other formed giant brown crusts
Day 11-15 - hit a plateau... scabby. no change
Day 16-20 - scabs on back have fallen off.. leaving pale pink skin underneath. Everyone says this is normal, so not worried too much about them , as they're hidden and will eventually go away. Ones on face still hanging on, the goons!
Day 21 - finally! 2 on my face fell off.. but left the same pink skin this time with a brown ring around the place the scab was... horrified, as i have over a 100 on my face and if each one leaves something like this, won't be able to go anywhere ! Plus scared this is permanent (anyone who's been through this PLEASE advise if they are)
day 22 - have read up everything that exists on the net about how long it'll take for the scabs to fall off, about the kind of scars, blah blah blah... and I'm terribly annoyed, not one concrete reply, everyone's so very vague... keywords... vitamin E, bio-oil/sandalwood oil/turmeric powder/lemon juice/dermabrasion... leaves me even more depressed than before
Day 23 - office getting paranoid, me getting paranoid about work... have been working form home continuously over chicken pox (not one day off even through fever... :( )
and i've probably milked everyon's sympathy and they surely think i'm faking it now, but GP says 3 weeks for a sever case is pretty much on schedule and happily says cna take a couple of weeks more.. god don't want to end up getting fired!!
Well that's the story so far... pretty short, since I've spent all of 3 weeks under house arrest.. next update in a couple of days, hopefully I'll have something happier to report
